Do you love basketball? Want to help kids, ages 3-12, learn to love it too? We have many volunteer opportunities for our winter basketball program. Coaches are needed to teach the fundamentals of basketball, good sportsmanship and to lead their teams in practice and in games. The season will run from October 13th-December 6th. Age Groups 3-6 will practice and play during the week; Age Group 7-12 will practice during the week and play on Saturdays. HOW TO REGISTER: 1. If you received an invitation to coach and have spoken to Nick Hoyt, Sports Director, scroll down to HOLD A POSITION and select BASKETBALL COACH - TEAM # (whichever team you are assigned) and click the blue volunteer button to register. 2. 🎃 Gamble-Nippert YMCA Trunk-or-Treat Night Friday, October 24th | 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM Join us for a spook-tacular evening of fall fun! Volunteers will help create a safe and festive environment for families to enjoy our annual Trunk-or-Treat celebration. Activities include: Trunk-or-Treat Car Host: Decorate car trunks and pass out candy to excited trick-or-treaters. Costume Contest: Help organize participants and cheer on the fun as the contest kicks off at 6:15 PM – big prize for the winner! Pumpkin Decorating: Support kids as they paint and decorate pumpkins (no carving – just paints, stickers, and creativity!). Monster Mash Dance: Get the crowd moving with kid-friendly DJ music. Field Game Zone: Help run Mummy Races, Spoon Relays, Ring Toss, Jenga, and more. Volunteers will assist with set-up, running activities, and clean-up. This is a perfect opportunity to connect with families, celebrate Halloween, and bring smiles to our community! Are you ready to lend a hand to make Gamble-Nippert YMCA a better place? We are always in need of help with small projects from painting, to taking out recycling, to minor repairs. Facility volunteers strive to make the Y a welcoming environment as they assist with light cleaning, simple landscaping projects and other beautification projects all year round. We would welcome new people with skills and/or the desire to help refresh and renew our Y so that all people feel welcome in our place. Girls on the Run inspires individuals of all abilities to discover, build, and grow their self-confidence. Together, they experience a sense of belonging and connection as a team. Volunteer coaches facilitate lessons that blend physical activity with life skill development, including managing emotions, fostering friendships, and expressing empathy. At the end of the season, the team completes a Community Impact Project and a 5K together, which provides a tangible sense of accomplishment and sets a confident mindset into motion. Fall 2025 Details: The fall 2025 season will be held Sept. 8 - Nov. 15, with our celebratory 5K on 11/15. Our planning process is roughly divided into three sections: Fall 2025 Site application opens 3/24/25 - for schools, community centers, churches, and parks planning to host a team. Coach application opens 6/2/25 – this link will be sent via email to anyone who is listed as a coach on the site application. Coach trainings – once a coach application has been submitted, online training can be completed in June and July with in-person sessions in August. Group Exercise Volunteers and Class Champions support YMCA instructors in making classes welcoming, energetic, and engaging for all participants. Volunteers assist with greeting and connecting with members, especially those new to class, as well as helping stage or set up equipment, supporting anyone arriving late, and maintaining a clean and safe exercise space. With instructor approval, volunteers may also demonstrate movements, lead routines, or offer one-on-one encouragement during class. This role is perfect for anyone who enjoys fitness, motivating others, and creating a sense of belonging. Volunteers are fully supervised by YMCA staff. Y Gardening Volunteers assist our YMCA Member Experience Staff in making our YMCA the most welcoming place for members and our neighbors. We are looking for volunteers to help with the Y Garden located on the YMCA grounds. Volunteers complete a variety of tasks depending on personal interest and the garden needs which may include planning, planting, weeding, watering and other light general maintenance. This role is ideal for those wanting to spend time outside, loving the opportunity to roll up their sleeves and putting their green thumbs to work. It's also a great project to learn about and broaden gardening skills and knowledge. It is also designed for community service hour seekers to fulfill school or non-legal requirements.
