Welcome Week Dinner 📅 Date: Tuesday, September 16, 2025 🕠 Time: 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM (Dinner served at 6:00 PM) 📍 Location: Central Parkway YMCA, 1105 Elm Street, Cincinnati, OH 45202 Each year, the YMCA celebrates Welcoming Week, a special time when neighbors from all backgrounds come together to build connections and affirm that everyone belongs. This year's celebration is centered around a community dinner - a warm, inclusive space to enjoy good food, connect with new people, and engage in meaningful conversation. Volunteers are vital to making this evening welcoming, smooth, and memorable for all attendees. Whether you're greeting guests or helping with set-up, you'll help turn this dinner into an unforgettable moment of connection. Do you love basketball? Want to help kids, ages 4-9, learn to love it too? We have many volunteer opportunities for our fall basketball program. Coaches are needed to teach the fundamentals of basketball, good sportsmanship and to lead their teams in practice and in games. The season will run from Oct 13th through Dec 6th. There are two different types of teams to coach: Teams 1,2,3, and 4 will practice for 30 minutes and then play their game for 30 minutes that same day. Teams 5-16 will meet TWO times a week: They will practice 45 minutes on a weeknight and play their games on a Saturday. HOW TO REGISTER: 1. Gardening Volunteers assist our YMCA Member Experience Staff in making our YMCA the most welcoming place for members and butterflies. We are looking for volunteers to help with the Butterfly Garden located on the YMCA grounds. Volunteers complete a variety of tasks depending on personal interest and the garden needs which may include planning, planting, weeding, watering and other light general maintenance. This role is ideal for those wanting to spend time outside, looking for the opportunity to roll up their sleeves, and putting their green thumbs to work. It's also a great project to learn about and broaden gardening skills and knowledge. It is also designed for community service hour seekers to fulfill school or non-legal requirements. Would you like to make a positive impact in the life of a child? Volunteers are needed to provide extra support to children and students in the childcare and after school programs at Blue Ash YMCA and Rising Stars- Vine. Under the guidance of trained Y Staff, volunteers can assist with homework help, arts and crafts, playing games and generally helping the children, preschool to sixth grade, to make learning and living fun. Volunteer opportunities are available at various sites and can be selected based on the volunteer's preferred location and availability. Group Exercise Volunteers and Class Champions support YMCA instructors in making classes welcoming, energetic, and engaging for all participants. Volunteers assist with greeting and connecting with members, especially those new to class, as well as helping stage or set up equipment, supporting anyone arriving late, and maintaining a clean and safe exercise space. With instructor approval, volunteers may also demonstrate movements, lead routines, or offer one-on-one encouragement during class. Coaches help players learn the fundamentals of the game, build good sportsmanship, and enjoy the fun of being part of a team. Season Dates: August 11 – October 4 Teams follow one of two formats: Saturday Teams (Teams 1–10): Practice for 30 minutes, followed by a 30-minute game—all on Saturday mornings. Weeknight + Saturday Teams (Teams 11–19): One 45-minute practice during the week, plus games on Saturdays. How to Register: 1. The Blue Ash Dolphins are one of the four competitive swim teams in the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati. Volunteers assist the team in a variety of capacities at swim meets throughout the season and with special projects and ongoing activities throughout the year. WHILE THE TEAM WILL CONTINUE TO USE TEAM UNIFY for meet sign-ups, ANYONE who plans to volunteer at the YMCA must also create a volunteer account in VolunteerMatters, the Y's online volunteer portal. By creating this account, all volunteers can complete the Y's Volunteer Relationship Agreement & Waiver of Liability and acknowledge the Child Protection Policy & Child Abuse Reporting Procedures. Make a splash by supporting our Water Fitness classes! Volunteers play an important role in creating a welcoming and energetic environment for participants by greeting members, helping set up and put away equipment, and keeping the space clean and organized. Central Parkway has teamed up with the Freestore Foodbank to help in their marketplace, package food for children, youth, and adults in our community, and to raise awareness about food insecurity in our area. No one should ever go hungry, and the Y is proud to play a part in making food available to our neighbors. This year, volunteers will go to the Liberty Street Market o April 24th from 1 pm-3:30 pm o June 5th from 1 pm-3:30 pm o September 11th from 1 pm-3:30 pm o November 13th from 1 pm-3:30 pm The Freestore Foodbank gives groceries to those in need so that they have one less thing to worry about as they try to make ends meet. Volunteers will help stock shelves, assist customers and provide an extra set of hands to make the work light in the market. Do you love basketball? Want to help kids, ages 3-9, learn to love it too? We have many volunteer opportunities for our winter basketball program. Coaches are needed to teach the fundamentals of basketball, good sportsmanship and to lead their teams in practice and in games. The season will run from October 13th-December 6th. Age Groups 3-6 will practice and play during the week; Age Group 7-9 will practice during the week and play on Saturdays. HOW TO REGISTER: 1. Facility Volunteers assist our YMCA Facility Technicians and Member Experience Staff in making our YMCA the most welcoming place. We are looking for volunteers to help with the beautification and maintenance of our facility. Volunteers complete a variety of tasks depending on personal interest and Y needs which may include sprucing up the lobby and fitness centers, assisting with towel service, outside beautification activities such as landscaping maintenance and other simple light maintenance tasks. This role is ideal for those wanting to provide positive customer service while lending a helping hand. Turn unwanted trash into treasured bedding and seating mats for those in need. Volunteers create plastic bag mats for distribution through Matthew 25 Ministries. Volunteers will flatten plastic bags, cut strips to make plastic yarn (Plarn) and crochet into a full size plastic bag mat for those in need. Volunteers meet at the Colerain Senior Center on Thursdays from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. weekly. Volunteers bring tools for cutting the plastic bags and their own crochet needles. Volunteers will help create a safe and festive environment for families to enjoy our annual Trunk-or-Treat celebration. Activities include: Trunk-or-Treat: Decorate car trunks and pass out candy to excited trick-or-treaters. Costume Contest: Help organize participants and cheer on the fun as the contest kicks off at 6:15 PM – big prize for the winner! Pumpkin Decorating: Support kids as they paint and decorate pumpkins (no carving – just paints, stickers, and creativity!). Monster Mash Dance: Get the crowd moving with kid-friendly DJ music. Girls on the Run inspires individuals of all abilities to discover, build, and grow their self-confidence. Together, they experience a sense of belonging and connection as a team. Volunteer coaches facilitate lessons that blend physical activity with life skill development, including managing emotions, fostering friendships, and expressing empathy. At the end of the season, the team completes a Community Impact Project and a 5K together, which provides a tangible sense of accomplishment and sets a confident mindset into motion. Fall 2025 Details: The fall 2025 season will be held Sept. 8 - Nov. 15, with our celebratory 5K on 11/15. Our planning process is roughly divided into three sections: Fall 2025 Site application opens 3/24/25 - for schools, community centers, churches, and parks planning to host a team. Coach application opens 6/2/25 – this link will be sent via email to anyone who is listed as a coach on the site application. Coach trainings – once a coach application has been submitted, online training can be completed in June and July with in-person sessions in August. Ever dream about being in the final four? Dreams need to start somewhere! Share your passion about basketball with players, ages 4-12, this summer! We have many volunteer opportunities for our summer basketball program. Coaches are needed to teach the fundamentals of basketball, good sportsmanship and to lead their teams in practice and in games. The season will run from June 5-August 1. All teams will practice for 30 minutes and then play their game for 30 minutes that same day. Ages 4-7 on Wednesdays and ages 8-12 on Thursdays HOW TO REGISTER: 1. Girls on the Run inspires individuals of all abilities to discover, build, and grow their self-confidence. Together, they experience a sense of belonging and connection as a team. Volunteer coaches facilitate lessons that blend physical activity with life skill development, including managing emotions, fostering friendships, and expressing empathy. At the end of the season, the team completes a Community Impact Project and a 5K together, which provides a tangible sense of accomplishment and sets a confident mindset into motion. Fall 2025 Details: The fall 2025 season will be held Sept. 8 - Nov. 15, with our celebratory 5K on 11/15. Our planning process is roughly divided into three sections: Fall 2025 Site application opens 3/24/25 - for schools, community centers, churches, and parks planning to host a team. Coach application opens 6/2/25 – this link will be sent via email to anyone who is listed as a coach on the site application. Coach trainings – once a coach application has been submitted, online training can be completed in June and July with in-person sessions in August. The Music Resource Center is a multifaceted teen center that uses recording and performing arts, as well as life skills mentoring, to create a sense of empowerment and accomplishment in the urban community. They accomplish our mission by utilizing music education and performance experiences, both of which create opportunities to teach important life skills, while simultaneously providing a safe alternative for teens in the seventh through twelfth grades. This rewarding opportunity supports income-eligible seniors through the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP), which provides healthy shelf-stable items, fruits, veggies, and cheese to help improve nutrition and quality of life. 💪 Volunteers will: Unload food boxes from the delivery truck (must be able to lift up to 20 pounds) Organize inventory Greet customers, check ID, and assist with light paperwork Help carry boxes to vehicles as needed Join us in addressing food insecurity and showing our seniors they matter. The Powel Crosley, Jr. YMCA Tigersharks are one of the four competitive swim teams in the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati. Volunteers assist the team in a variety of capacities at swim meets throughout the season and with special projects and ongoing activities throughout the year. Do you love soccer? Want to help kids, ages 3-10, learn to love it too? We have many volunteer opportunities for our Fall soccer program. Coaches are needed to teach the fundamentals of soccer, good sportsmanship and to lead their teams in practice and in games. The season will run from August 14th through October 7th. There are two different types of teams to coach: Teams 1-8 will play on Saturdays. They will practice for 30 minutes and then play their game for 30 minutes that same day. Teams 9-32 will play TWO times a week: They will practice for 45 minute on a weeknight and play their games on a Saturday. HOW TO REGISTER: 1. The R.C. Durr Barracuda Swim Team is one of the four competitive swim teams in the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati. Volunteers assist the team in a variety of capacities at swim meets throughout the season and with special projects and ongoing activities throughout the year. A member of the Child Development Services Staff will reach out to you to schedule an interview to discuss the volunteer role, necessary background checks, and training. When volunteering in a childcare or a school setting, you will be required by the state of Ohio to complete the following through OCCRA.org: a background check, including BCI & FBI fingerprints, a medical form, and child protection and reporting training. Training and other requirements will be provided by the YMCA site. Once you have completed the interview process, you will set up a schedule with staff.
